Rhodotypos scandens wordt in het Nederlands vaak Kaimastruik of schijnkerria genoemd. Het is een middelgrote bladverliezende stuik met eerst een ronde opgaande vorm, later meer gespreid in de breedte groeiend. De bladeren zijn eivormig, middengroen en gezaagd, de bloei neemt plaats in de maanden mei en juni met kleine witte bloemen, in de herfst gevolgd door blinkende zwarte besjes. Rhodotypos scandens houdt van een standplaats in volle zon, maar kan ook goed halfschaduw of zelfs schaduw aan.
